The Elton John song Amy was thinking of is Crocodile Rock. I vaguely remember that Muppet Show appearance. It must have happened soon after Etlon started to dress all crazy. Before the late 70s, he was mostly normal-looking.
Also, as you discovered, Elton provides excellent "What the Hell Do They Say" content. -

wow, I had to sign up and everything just to leave a comment!! This is going to be pretty anti-climatic after all that.
Anyway, happy BELATED birthday, Amy! Sounds like you had a good one. Isn't it funny how the times change..... several years ago a good birthday would have consisted of several cocktails and karaoke. Now it's a night of Ratatouille and grilling your own dinner. :)
